About Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park Resort is in Chertsey, Surrey, about 30 km south-west of London, built on a former gravel pit that left the park dotted with lakes. It is the UK's most thrill-focused park: its target audience is teenagers and young adults, and the coaster line-up reflects that.

Which rides get the longest queues

Hyperia, the tallest coaster in the UK which opened in 2024, draws by far the longest queues. Stealth, with its vertical launch, and The Swarm, the wing coaster, build long waits. Nemesis Inferno and Colossus, the latter with ten inversions, round out the busiest rides. SAW - The Ride queues steadily, and Tidal Wave and Depth Charge fill up the moment the sun comes out — a decisive factor in England.

Frequently asked questions

How long are the waits at Thorpe Park?

On summer weekends Hyperia and Stealth can exceed an hour. Midweek outside school holidays 20-40 minutes is typical. The live waits on this page show the real figure.

Is Thorpe Park suitable for young children?

It is the UK's most thrill-oriented park: most of its headline rides have height restrictions and it is not designed for small children. For family visits, Chessington or Legoland Windsor are a better fit.

What is Hyperia?

It is the tallest roller coaster in the UK, opened in 2024, standing 72 metres tall. It is the park's signature ride and the one with the longest queue.

When is Thorpe Park open?

It runs a season from roughly March to early November, with the Fright Nights event at Halloween. It closes over winter.
