Europa-Park is Germany's largest theme park and the second most visited in Europe, in Rust between the Black Forest and the French border. It is organised into areas themed to different European countries — Germany, Italy, Greece, Iceland, Scandinavia, Spain and more — each with its own architecture, food and rides. Which rides get the longest queues

Silver Star, a hypercoaster over 70 metres tall in the France area, and Blue Fire Megacoaster, with a launch and inversions in the Iceland area, draw the biggest crowds. How to avoid the queues

• Arrive before opening: the park is vast and the first 60 minutes are the most valuable of the day.
• Start at the far end (Iceland or Scandinavia) and work back towards the entrance — most people do the loop the other way.
• Save the indoor rides for the hottest hours or if rain threatens.
• Eat early or late: at midday coaster queues dip while restaurant queues spike.
• In peak season, consider staying at one of the resort hotels for the early entry.
