About Efteling
Efteling is the oldest and most visited theme park in the Netherlands, in Kaatsheuvel between Amsterdam and Brussels. Theming is its defining trait: it opened in 1952 as a fairytale forest and has kept that storytelling character in nearly everything it builds, with a house style quite unlike any other European park. It mixes gentle family attractions with modern coasters.
Which rides get the longest queues
Baron 1898, the dive coaster set in a Dutch mine, draws the longest queues in the park. De Vliegende Hollander, half coaster and half water ride, and Droomvlucht, a classic dark ride much loved by Dutch visitors, also build long waits. Fata Morgana, a boat ride through an oriental bazaar, and Danse Macabre, one of the newest additions, stay busy all day. Symbolica and Python complete the list of high-demand attractions.
How to avoid the queues
- Ride Baron 1898 first: it queues up earliest and clears slowest.
- Save the Fairytale Forest for mid-afternoon — it is a walkthrough and does not depend on queues.
- Indoor dark rides are the best option in the rain, but that is also when they fill up most.
- Eat outside peak hours; restaurants get very busy between 12:00 and 14:00.
- The last hour before close is particularly good for re-riding the coasters.
