About Chessington World of Adventures

Chessington World of Adventures is in south-west London and combines a theme park and a zoo on the same site, which is unusual. It is arranged in themed areas — Wild Asia, Forbidden Kingdom, Land of the Tiger, Mystic East, Pirates Cove — and its core audience is families with children, which sets it apart from its neighbour Thorpe Park.

Which rides get the longest queues

Mandrill Mayhem, the launch coaster that opened in 2023, draws the biggest crowds. Dragon's Fury, the spinning coaster, and Vampire, the suspended coaster that runs through the woods, build long waits through the day. Croc Drop and Tiger Rock round out the busiest rides. The animal areas carry no queue but absorb a lot of visit time, and are worth allowing for when planning the day.

How to avoid the queues

Frequently asked questions

How long are the waits at Chessington?

On weekends and school holidays Mandrill Mayhem and Dragon's Fury can reach 45 minutes. Midweek in the shoulder season waits are considerably shorter. The live waits on this page show the real figure.

Does Chessington include the zoo?

Yes. The zoo and the SEA LIFE aquarium are included in the park ticket and are a significant part of the visit. Worth setting time aside for them.

Chessington or Thorpe Park?

It depends on the audience: Chessington is family-oriented with children as the main target and the zoo included; Thorpe Park is thrill-focused for teenagers and adults. Both are close to London.

When is Chessington open?

It opens much of the year, with reduced hours in winter and special events at Halloween and Christmas. Worth checking the calendar before visiting.
